Takaya is an Actor, Photographer and Filmmaker. He was born in Canberra, but moved to Sydney at a young age. He attended Barker College where he graduated in 2005 and then attended the College Of Fine Arts (UNSW) in 2006 studying a Bachelor of Digital Media before transferring to the University of Technology Sydney in 2007 to study a Bachelor of Arts in Communication (MediaArts and Production) which he graduated from on the 29th April 2011.
Takaya's work as an actor has seen him on screens around the world in a variety of television series and films. He is best known as Dr. David Tanaka in long running Australian Soap Neighbours. He began as a regular character in 2016 alongside on-screen twin Tim Kano who plays his business savvy and sometimes morally ambiguous brother Leo Tanaka. He is also currently appearing in the SBS and Matchbox Pictures comedy series The Family Law as Klaus Thomson.
Takaya is a presenter on Australia's longest running Children's program Play School (which is the second longest running children's program worldwide).
He is also a regular stage presence in Australia having worked consistently for Sport For Jove Theatre Company appearing in their productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, and the critically acclaimed Hamlet directed by Damien Ryan. Photography for Takaya began as a hobby, having always found a joy in capturing a moment in time. His passion and ability was noticed and he has worked as a theatre poster, production and rehearsal photographer. As an award winning filmmaker Takaya continues his passion for the still image into the moving having created several short films and worked as a cameraman, editor and producer for a range of corporate and promotional videos.
